To decide when to apply the one or the other method rests with the analyst's skill and experience. Practical medicine is, and has always been an art, and the same is true of practical analysis. True art is creation, and creation is beyond all theories. That is why I say to any beginner: Learn your theories as well as you can, but put them aside when you touch the miracle of the living soul. Not theories, but your own creative individuality alone must decide. ~Carl Jung, Contributions to Analytical Psychology, Page 361

Familism – Where the Family Structure/ Systems / Values / Relationships becomes a Diety to the Children to both Deify and Fear - My Notes

Familism – Where the Family Structure/ Systems / Values / Relationships  becomes a Diety to the Children to both Deify and Fear

Def. The subordination of the personal interests and prerogatives of the individual to the values and demands of the family, chararacterized by the patriarchal or matriarchal family. AKA  - The Narcissistic Family System / Model / AKA = Enmeshed Family Systems

In our present culture the power of the family is waning fast.

Civic culture (the ethos of the community) is of lower value then family affairs. The good of the family takes value over the communities needs.
Familism is how people arrange their own likes based on the family both as household and as kinship.
In a famililistic society engaged in the upward mobility each generation wants the children to have a higher status or at least equal to their own therefore the familial investment is very strong
Based on an absolutist ideology, which provides a rationalization for the abuse and control. Based on a closed system, discourages contact with outside agencies.

Competition and frustration are intrinsic features of communal life, both human and animal. It is the collective desire to reduce this fear that leads humans to form social structures to which the individual cedes power in the hope of ensuring protection and safety.

The bonds of family are both the centre of protective warmth and most often a vicious betrayal.

A social pattern in which the family assumes a position of ascendance over individual interests

Through a series of spoken and unspoken rules, obedience and servitude no matter what is created. Though these entrenched beliefs, rule based family system, blind obedience is the motivator. To disobey the family system is to be a traitor to one’s family. Allegiances to country, political party or religion are pale in comparison to the intensity of these family allegiances.  For safely, security and a sense a belonging are just a few of the driving forces.
