Developmental transition and/or crisis
Defining characteristics:

 The family system is unable to meet physical needs of its members.
 Family system unable to meet emotional needs of its members.
 Family system unable to meet spiritual needs of its members.
  Parents do not demonstrate respect for each other's views on child-rearing practices.
 Inability to express/accept a wide range of feelings. Anger is the most common.  
Inability to express/accept feelings of members.
 Family unable to meet security needs of its members.
 The inability of the family members to relate to each other for mutual growth and maturation. 
 Inability to accept/receive help appropriately.
 Parents and Children display Rigidity in function and roles.
  Family not demonstrating respect for individuality and autonomy of its members.
 Family unable to adapt to change/deal with traumatic experience constructively.
  Family failing to accomplish current/past developmental task.
  Unhealthy family decision-making process.
 Failure to send and receive clear messages.
 Inappropriate boundary maintenance
