Love And Hate
Freud’s duel-drive theory of love
and hate, sex and aggression is central to understanding human nature. In
therapy the role of the therapist is to free the aggressive drives by bringing
them into consciousness. Thereby having them dissolved, spent, to have one’s
rage accepted but contained, integrated and thereby controlled, tamed or
civilized, channeled into constructive paths. Repressed anger is assumed to be
the motive force behind most psychopathology.
